Creating a public understanding of the biology of the babirusa (Babyrousa babyrussa) within a caring zoo environment

Abstract

Studies on babirusa, carried out largely in zoos throughout the world and dealing with various biologicaland veterinary aspects, have yelded data which offer hypotheses which can be examined and tested by the observation of babirusa in the wild. This paper will review the results of these studies and present them within the context of generating interest in and awareness of the biology of the babirusa and the environment within which it lives.
